Who are the Safer California Unintentional Injury Prevention Training Seminars for: 

• Local prevention coalition, program, community leaders, and other childhood safety and health stakeholders. • Policymakers and their policy staff.

The purpose of the Safer California Unintentional Injury Prevention Training Seminars: 

1. Increase the attendees’ knowledge of the unintentional injury topic the seminar is focused on. the nation.
2. Increase the attendees’ knowledge of the latest data and evidence-based best practices of the unintentional injury topic of the seminar. 
3. Provide real world examples of how local prevention programs are structured, funded, and challenges and solutions working on the prevention issue at the community level. 
4. Increase the attendees networking and partnership development with other prevention leaders, staff, and stakeholders from around California and the nation.

Upcoming Safer California training seminars by Zoom: 

• A. Drowning prevention education partnering with schools - June 25 at 12 noon (Pacific time) Partnering with schools to provide drowning prevention education for all student grade levels and their parents. Latest updates on California law opening the partnership with drowning prevention organizations and real-world examples of how organizations are working with schools. 
• B. Fixing local drowning “hot spots” - July 16 at 12 noon (Pacific time) Ending local drowning “hot spots,” how to use local drowning data to identify settings where multiple drownings have occurred and where to find information and tools and who to partner with to address and correct your local drowning hot spots. 
• C. E-bike and bicycle safety partnering with schools and local traffic safety agencies – July 30 at 12 noon (Pacific time) How to partner with your local area’s schools and traffic safety agencies to host e-bike and bicycle safety training programs. Who to partner with, specific issues to cover in the safety program, how to involve teenagers and youth to help create peer-to-peer programs, and how to engage parents. 
• D. Addressing teen distracted driving – August 13 at 12 noon (Pacific time) Increase your knowledge of what is and why distracted driving is such an important issue to address with young drivers, how to engage teenagers and youth in your distracted driving prevention program, and what resources are available to support your teen driver distracted driving prevention program. 
• E. New Drowning Prevention laws in California – August 27 at 12 noon (Pacific time) Increase your knowledge about the most recent state policies and laws advancing drowning prevention in California, how the new laws are being implemented, and how to apply and real world examples of using these new laws and tools to increase your drowning prevention efforts. 
• F. Sudden Infant Deaths (SIDS) prevention and SIDS family support – September 24 at 12 noon (Pacific time) Increase your knowledge regarding the latest research into understanding SIDS, best evidence-based prevention practices, and resources, and what and how to support SIDS families after the loss of a child to SIDS. 
• G. SIDS EMS first responder knowledge – October 29 at 12 noon (Pacific time) If you are an EMS or Fire first responder increase your knowledge about Sudden Infant Death (SIDS) to enhance your knowledge of dealing with an unknown cause of an infant that is unresponsive, may be determined deceased at the scene, and addressing the family at the scene. This training is not meant to replace or change your EMS or Fire certification training or LEMSA protocol on dealing with infant death but SIDS is one of the leading causes of infant death and better understanding the biology/physiology involving SIDS and practical information from first responders with experience with SIDS situations can help improve your response at the scene and impact addressing your own mental health. 
• H. Lifeguard workforce and drowning prevention – November 19 at 12 noon (Pacific time) Increase your knowledge about Lifeguards’ role in California’s various water settings, about the challenges and solutions addressing California’s Lifeguard workforce, training programs, and resources, impacting California’s drowning prevention, swim lessons, and recreational swimming settings. 
• I. California’s Top Safer California unintentional injury prevention action recommendations – December 17 at 12 noon (Pacific time) – Learn about the leading policy, program, and resource recommendations made by California’s leading injury prevention experts and front line leaders and contained in the updated 2026 Safer California Injury Prevention Action Plan Report created and updated through the Safer California Unintentional Injury Prevention Action Planning Conference. Safer California was created with the goal to help the state end unintentional injury as the leading cause of death and hospitalizations of our children and youth up through age 20. The Safer California action plan report provides an important roadmap of how to accomplish this goal.
